AI Policy
SINOMICS Journal recognizes the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to support the research and writing process while affirming that academic integrity and author responsibility must always be preserved. This policy applies to all authors submitting manuscripts to the International Journal of Social Science, Education, Communication and Economics (SINOMICS Journal).
Definition of AI Tools
For the purpose of this policy, AI tools refer to systems such as large language models (e.g., ChatGPT), grammar and style checkers (e.g., Grammarly), paraphrasing tools (e.g., QuillBot), and other software that can generate, translate, analyze, or substantially transform text, data, images, or audio used in scholarly work.
Permitted Uses
Authors are allowed to use AI tools in limited, assistive ways, including:
-
Spelling, grammar, and language polishing.
-
Formatting references and basic language editing.
-
Supporting data processing or analysis as long as methods are transparent and validated by the authors.
AI tools must not replace the authors’ own intellectual contribution, critical thinking, or interpretation of findings.
Prohibited Uses
The following uses of AI are not allowed:
-
Generating entire manuscripts or substantial sections of text that are not critically reviewed and substantially revised by the authors.
-
Fabricating, manipulating, or altering data, tables, figures, or images.
-
Generating false references, unsupported claims, or “hallucinated” citations.
-
Using AI for translation or content creation without careful human verification.
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors and cannot be credited as having responsibility for the content.
Disclosure Requirements
Any use of AI tools that goes beyond simple grammar and spell-checking must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript. Authors should:
-
Specify the name and version of the AI tool used.
-
Describe clearly for what purpose the tool was used (e.g., language editing, initial drafting of the introduction, coding assistance).
-
Confirm that all AI-generated content has been reviewed, verified, and, where necessary, corrected by the authors.
A suitable statement may be included in the Acknowledgments, Methods, or in a separate “AI Use Declaration”, for example:
“The authors used [tool name, version] for [specific purpose]. All outputs were reviewed and edited by the authors, who take full responsibility for the content of this publication.”
Author Responsibility
Human authors remain fully responsible for:
-
The accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content, including any part assisted by AI.
-
Ensuring that no plagiarism, data fabrication, or research misconduct results from AI use.
-
Ensuring compliance with all ethical standards and relevant guidelines of SINOMICS Journal.
AI tools cannot assume accountability and therefore cannot be cited as responsible parties for any part of the work.
Editorial Assessment and Sanctions
Editors and reviewers may evaluate the use of AI tools as part of the overall assessment of the manuscript. Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI may be treated as a breach of publication ethics and can result in:
-
Rejection of the manuscript during review.
-
Retraction or correction of an article after publication.
-
Temporary or permanent submission ban for the authors in serious cases.
Authors may submit an appeal to the Editor-in-Chief if they contest a decision related to AI misuse.
Policy Review
This AI Usage Policy will be periodically reviewed and updated in response to the rapid development of AI technologies and evolving best practices in scholarly publishing. The most recent version of the policy will be made available on the SINOMICS Journal website.
